One thing I ask of the Lord. This I long to dwell in the house of the Lord,
all the days of my life.

Ongoing Projects

Cathedral Building Project

The Bishop and other Christ’s faithful of the Diocese of Auchi in 2015 embarked on a renovating and restructuring the Cathedral edifice in a bid to modernize and have a befitting dwelling for the Lord and a decent ambience for worship.

Thus far, the on-going project has recorded massive progress. With the approval of the Bishop, the present Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr. John Aligamhe, has so far installed the three main doors to the church, completed the tilling of the stairway outside and skirting of outside wall and column, the installation of a Digital bell, tiling of the sanctuary floor with marble, installation of the marble Altar, Ambo and tiling of the gallery and staircase. Electrical works are on-going while painting and rendering of the sanctuary walls with satin paint have been completed. However, the congregational space, sacristy and other various offices inside the building and outside are yet to be painted.

While we thank the Bishop and all those who are supporting this project, we continue to seek God’s help and those of our dear sons and daughters of goodwill for support towards the successful completion of this important project.

Minor Seminary projects

In keeping with the mandate of evangelization, in 2008, the Catholic Bishop of Auchi, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel G. Dunia, established a Minor Seminary for the diocese. This seminary which bears the name, Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary, Ivhianopkodi, at the moment has series of developmental projects at hand.

To God be the glory, the rectory and the generator house projects are near completion. The seminary hall is also near completion while its right wing is temporarily in use. The new kitchen project which started in 2019 is 80 percent completed. The Church project is also moving reasonably. Another project that the seminary intends to undertake soonest is the perimeter fencing of the seminary compound.

As we thank God for everything He has done for us as a Diocese, we continue to implore the aid of beloved Sons and daughters to achieve all these goals in no distant time.

About Us

logoThe Diocese history of Auchi dates back to the latter part of the 19th century when the first Roman Catholic Missionaries arrived at Agenebode in the present Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State. Although, evidences abound of earlier contacts of the Christian missionaries with the indigenes of Agenebode and environs, the officially recorded date for this is 1884 when catholic priests started visiting Agenebode and environs from their then headquarters in Lokoja.
