Bishop Dunia Dedicates St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Ogbona

2022-07-05

The church building of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Ogbona, on Saturday 25th July, 2022 was dedicated by the Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel G. Dunia following the completion of all major renovations in the church edifice.

The dedication ceremony which took place at the celebration of the Mass of dedication presided over by the Bishop, was graced by a good number of Priests, Consecrated Men and Women, knights and ladies of the church, lay faithful and indigenes of Ogbona community both home and abroad

In his homily, the Chief Shepherd enjoined the faithful to fear God and seek to do His will. He stressed that the house of God should be seen as sacred and revered and notto be seen as ordinary pieces of blocks and material elements, but to be seen as a symbol of God’s presence. He said that when a Church is built it is being dedicated to God and that dedication makes it a high place for worship.

Continuing, the Prelate said that the visible Church on earth reflects the Church in heaven and whoever is walking into the Church should walk in solemn silence, for only fools rush where even the angels fear to tread. He noted that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom and whoever fears God sees beyond what mere mortals see, adding that the Church Building is a place to revere and commune with God.

In line with the celebration, the church building was dedicatedwith the act of consecration which entailed anointing of the altar and walls of the Church. The Bishop further presented the certificate of theChurch dedication to the Parish Priest, Very Rev. Fr. Philip Omokhekhe.

After the post communion prayer, the Blessed Sacrament was also transferred to the church Tabernacle with the rite of adoration.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of certificates of appreciation to some persons who have contributed in one way or the other towards the success of the dedication of the church by the Chairman of the Parish planning committee, Mr. Omomoh.

After the Mass, there was a reception ceremony organized within the church premises to entertain guests and well-wishers present at the event.

About Us

logoThe Diocese history of Auchi dates back to the latter part of the 19th century when the first Roman Catholic Missionaries arrived at Agenebode in the present Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State. Although, evidences abound of earlier contacts of the Christian missionaries with the indigenes of Agenebode and environs, the officially recorded date for this is 1884 when catholic priests started visiting Agenebode and environs from their then headquarters in Lokoja.
