Bishop Dunia Ordains Seven New Priests For Auchi Diocese
… Charges New Priests To Be Of Good Service To The Church

2022-06-03

The Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel G. Dunia, has recently ordained seven Deacons as Priests for the diocese after fulfilling all necessary canonical requirements.

This solemn ceremony which took place at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Auchi, was graced by Priests, Religious, and Parishioners from within and outside the diocese, as well as friends, well-wishers; including the wife of the deputy Governor of Edo State, Mrs. Marian Shaibu, and family members of the Ordinands, who came in their numbers to felicitate with the newly ordained and witness another priestly ordination in the diocese since 2019.

At the Mass, the candidates for ordination were presented before the Church to the Bishop by the Vocations Director, Very Rev. Fr. Jude Amune shortly before the homily. The Ordinands were: Rev. Frs. Justin Azubuike, Emmanuel Bethel Garuba, Charles Inyinbor, Augustine Maliki, Victor Mbaekwe Victor Nnaemeka and Aloysius Soribe.

Delivering the homily at the Mass, the Bishop charged the ordinands to be of good and dutiful service to the Church and humanity at large noting that Jesus whom they have become his Priests taught his disciples humility in service by stating that the greatest among his disciples should place himself as the youngest, and the leader as the servant of others.

Commencing the Rite of Ordination proper after the homily, each of the candidates came before the Bishop to pledge obedience to him and all his successors, and after the prayer of consecration, the Diocese of Auchi recorded an additional number of seven Priests to her records of Priests.

Important point of the ceremony was a thanksgiving procession to the altar by the newly ordained after the post communion prayer, were all friends and well-wishers and indeed all those present, joined the new Priests in their joyful mood as they thanked God for bringing to fulfillment, what He started in their lives some years ago.

After the Mass, there was a reception organized for each of the newly ordained Priests in the Cathedral premises were all the ordinands entertained their guests and well-wishers for sharing in their joy.

We congratulate the Bishop, Priests, Religious, and the entire lay faithful of the Diocese of Auchi, home and away.  In like manner, we congratulate the new priests and pray for the grace of final perseverance upon them all.

About Us

logoThe Diocese history of Auchi dates back to the latter part of the 19th century when the first Roman Catholic Missionaries arrived at Agenebode in the present Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State. Although, evidences abound of earlier contacts of the Christian missionaries with the indigenes of Agenebode and environs, the officially recorded date for this is 1884 when catholic priests started visiting Agenebode and environs from their then headquarters in Lokoja.
