2020-07-14

In commemoration of the yearly World Communications Day celebration, the Catholic Diocese of Auchi has recently celebrated the 54th World Communications Day based on the theme "That You May Tell Your Children And Grandchildren (Ex10:2) Life becomes History" at the Bishop's Residence in Waterboard, Auchi Edo State.
The event featured the Holy Mass which was celebrated by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel G. Dunia, Children Speeches which included a poem and write-up delivered after the Mass on Coronavirus (Covid-19 pandemic) awareness, Short Press Briefing by the Bishop after the Mass and a talk which was centred on "Parents and Supervision of Children on the use of Digital Technologies" among other activities.
In his homily, His Lordship, Most Rev. (Dr). Gabriel G. Dunia who welcomed the Priests and other Catholic Media Practitioners of Auchi Diocese, hinted that there is a moment set aside by God to empower his creatures to voice out his knowledge and power on how to do things right and to give life to the human person to fulfill His purpose on earth alongside the ultimate goal of eternal life. He said there is need to have consultation with God, as Jesus was confirmed by the Father as the spokes man who Himself is God, hence, he encouraged them to always give glory to God in all their activities by making allusion to the Gospel of St. John 17:1.
The Prelate explained that the knowledge of God will not make them to live without the truth and with this, they will live a productive life, adding that in as much as they have life, they will have the knowledge of God which in turn, will help them to share in God's creative work who has the power to create and re-create. He noted that the present technologies which are created by the Scientists in the world were as a result of the knowledge of God and that as everyone had gathered to celebrate the 54th World Communications Day, there is need for them to pray and be happy that they are part of the entire plan of God so that they can communicate the truth forever.
Delivering a talk at the event, the Guest Speaker, Mrs. Chioma Agboh, a Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, explicitly explained the meaning of digital technologies with its advantages and disadvantages. She enjoined parents to monitor their wards by putting some guidelines in place in the use of digital technologies such as setting time boundaries, monitoring what they do on social media space and the likes.
Highpoints of the ceremony were the reading of the Pope's Message for the 54th World Communications Day by the Assistant Director of Social Communications, Rev. Fr. Timothy Etsenamhe and a short Press Briefing by the Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel G. Dunia.

About Us

logoThe Diocese history of Auchi dates back to the latter part of the 19th century when the first Roman Catholic Missionaries arrived at Agenebode in the present Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State. Although, evidences abound of earlier contacts of the Christian missionaries with the indigenes of Agenebode and environs, the officially recorded date for this is 1884 when catholic priests started visiting Agenebode and environs from their then headquarters in Lokoja.
