One thing I ask of the Lord. This I long to dwell in the house of the Lord,
all the days of my life.

Bishop\'s Brother, Yakubu Dunia Is a Laid To Rest At Imiegba

2019-04-03

Mr. Yakubu Dunia, the elder brother of the Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel G. Dunia, has been laid to rest at his home town in Imiegba.
At the commencement of the burial ceremony, the corpse of Mr. Yakubu Dunia was received at the family house where he was paid his last respect and thereafter, the remains were taken to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Imiegba for the Funeral Mass before the interment, as the Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Gerald Ugo welcomed all present.
In his homily at the Mass, Rev. Fr. Callistus Ikhane speaking on the mysteries of death and life, said that people refuse to talk about death but do not understand that the more one fails to talk about death, the more it occurs and it is something that no one knows when it will come. He noted that what is sure for everyone is the fact that death must come one day and those who believe in God will see God after death which is inevitable. The Priest emphasized that people are always afraid to talk about death, but life after death is more beautiful since it is a life that is forever.
He said that this life is referred to as “a market” which one goes to and leaves behind and that is why death is a price we must all pay, it is either one is sad or happy when it eventually comes. The Priest stressed that there is no doubt that the Late Mr. Yakubu Dunia lived a fulfilled life and was a man of peace. He pointed out that these remarks are made about the deceased not because he is a brother to the Bishop but because he loves Priests, always present at Church activities, gentle and respected everyone around him. He added that death is like a reality that comes at any time as Mr. Yakubu Dunia was a man who championed the peaceful state of affairs of the family and the entire community.
In his remarks, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Most Rev. (Dr.) Gabriel G. Dunia thanked the Priests, Religious and Lay faithful for creating time out of their busy schedules to attend his elder brother’s burial ceremony. He said the Late Mr. Yakubu was a blameless person, always happy and always ready to do the right thing. He noted that his demise was the Lord’s will. Thereafter, the Bishop introduced some visiting Priests from other Archdioceses and Dioceses and bid his late brother farewell.
Meanwhile, the body of late Mr. Yakubu Dunia was interred at his family’s compound at Imiegba.

About Us

logoThe Diocese history of Auchi dates back to the latter part of the 19th century when the first Roman Catholic Missionaries arrived at Agenebode in the present Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State. Although, evidences abound of earlier contacts of the Christian missionaries with the indigenes of Agenebode and environs, the officially recorded date for this is 1884 when catholic priests started visiting Agenebode and environs from their then headquarters in Lokoja.
