Holy Rosary, Uzairue Celebrates 100 Years of Christianity

2019-04-03

In thanksgiving to God for the establishment of Christianity in their domain, the communities of Afowa/Affashio Uzairue have celebrated the centenary of the advent of Catholicism at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Uzairue.
Delivering his homily at the Mass, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Most Rev. (Dr.) Gabriel G. Dunia who greeted and thanked all present for creating time out of the their busy schedules, told them that the theme of the celebration is “Never Forget the Great Deeds of the Lord”. He urged all to continue to serve God appropriately, thanking Him for what He has done in their lives from one generation to another.
He said as Christians, they should endeavour to serve God in thanksgiving with reservation, though, there is so much economics hardship that they are facing as a people, but should not be disturbed by such difficult situation as God definitely intervene for good. He explained that the centenary ought to be celebrated more than it was as a Book concerning the celebration ought to be presented, however the Bishop noted that it will still be done in subsequent time as the celebration is for everybody in which the entire Auchi Diocese including all the Parishes/Mass centre need to come together to celebrate in thanksgiving for the great thing the Lord has done in their lives. He added that during the missionary journey to Etsako and the entire Edo North, many enthusiastically served God and extended the same Christianity to others communities so as to keep serving God for His goodness.
The Prelate pointed out that looking at the numerous things that the Lord has done, one needs to give thanks to Him. He urged all present to continue to give thanks to God, examine their lives to know if they are still in Christ, as this is what they need to do often by reflecting on their lives and doing the right thing so that others can emulate them. The Bishop thanked the Committee of the Centenary celebration especially Dr. John Edemode for his efforts and all who worked hard to ensure that the celebration was possible. He thereafter urged all to continue to serve God not because they are forced or pressurized but should serve Him for His goodness and to remember all the wonderful things He has done in their lives so as to glorify His name in all conditions.
Speaking at the event, Dr. John Edemode who thanked the Priest, Religious and Lay faithful, especially the Bishop, for his fatherly care for the people of Auchi Diocese by teaching everyone to embrace peace and the Catholic faith, he also thanked the Management and Staff of the Sancta Maria Catholic Hospital for their service to humanity.

About Us

logoThe Diocese history of Auchi dates back to the latter part of the 19th century when the first Roman Catholic Missionaries arrived at Agenebode in the present Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State. Although, evidences abound of earlier contacts of the Christian missionaries with the indigenes of Agenebode and environs, the officially recorded date for this is 1884 when catholic priests started visiting Agenebode and environs from their then headquarters in Lokoja.
