Bishop Dunia Ordains Ten Deacons

2018-06-04

His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel G. Dunia has ordained Ten Deacons for the Diocese of Auchi, at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Auchi. They were Reverends Anazor Romanus, Anyawu Emmanuel, Daniel Evbotokhai, Igiehha Chinoye, Ikechukwu Amos, Okochukwu Peter, Okong Philip, Osu Tunde, Ugorgi Chigozi and Ubesinachi Francis.
Delivering the homily at the Mass, Bishop Dunia who welcomed all present to the event noted that everyone is present at the Mass as a result of the Diaconate Ordination of their Sons. He further admonished the Lay faithful to always listen to the Holy Spirit so as to reap the benefits of Divine Mercy as the day was the celebration of the feast of Divine Mercy.
The Prelate told all present that they need to recognize the mercy of God and imbibe the spirit of humility at all time and pointed out that there is need to focus on God and depend on Him in all conditions. He also explained that in all, God knows all thier problems and it is only when one trusts and hope in Him that such person can be saved. He added that depending on God for hope and blessings does not mean that one will not experience any challenge and as God’s children, they should not give up to evil activities in the world, while noting that the seminarians that were about to be ordained were made to pass through vigorous training before ordination.
Speaking Further, the Bishop admonished the seminarians on the need to work hard to support the grace God has granted them to carry out their mission according to the mercy of God, submit their lives to the will of God as God’s mercy is what everyone depends on at all times. He informed all that the Diocese follows protocol in the ordination of Deacons since they are examined during their training and after proper examination, their names are sent to Rome for proper supervision before their ordination. Bishop Dunia hinted that the Priestly ordination is not under consideration like one having a Masters Degree, but it is dependent on God’s mercy. He lamented that at times, some seem to be rebellious in their hearts after they have been ordained and urged the newly ordained to be soldiers of Christ both in good and bad times, also urging the Lay faithful to pray for them.
Highpoint of the ceremony was the vow taken by the newly ordained deacons among other activities.

About Us

logoThe Diocese history of Auchi dates back to the latter part of the 19th century when the first Roman Catholic Missionaries arrived at Agenebode in the present Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State. Although, evidences abound of earlier contacts of the Christian missionaries with the indigenes of Agenebode and environs, the officially recorded date for this is 1884 when catholic priests started visiting Agenebode and environs from their then headquarters in Lokoja.
