2012-03-25
The Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese Most Rev. (Dr.) Gabriel G. Dunia, has marked his 9th Episcopal ordination anniversary thanksgiving at Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Auchi.
Delivering his homily at the mass which coincided with Ash Wednesday, the bishop who noted that lent is a period in which faithful are expected to pray, fast and give alms to the poor around them, stressed that Catholics are also expected to give themselves totally to God, adding that it is only in doing so that they would become useful to God and themselves.
Continuing, the chief shepherd of the diocese enjoined all present to see the period of lent as an opportunity to have a personal retreat and purge themselves from all the wrong things they have done against God and charged them to re-examine and redirect their lifestyle in a positive way.
Further, he tasked all faithful to continue to reflect on the importance of lent and described it as a season in the catholic faith whereby faithful would fast, abstain from sinful acts, pray, give alms to those who might need their assistance and reminded all present on the need for them to shun evil desires and turn to the father who is the owner of their lives.
More, the prelate appreciated God who has given the revelation to the church and prayed that He would help His children to continue to practice what is expected of them.
Highpoint of the mass was a thanksgiving procession by faithful in appreciation to God for the life of the bishop, as well as the distribution of ash to all present.
Other priests present at the mass were Rev. Frs. Valentine Anaweokhai and Charles Dania
